discussion Do you find it difficult to play a protagonist that doesn't align with your self?

I find it difficult to play games with a female protagonist. It's harder to insert myself into the role, I suppose. I do actually read and such so maybe that's a part of it. I really do play the games "for the articles."

One of the chloe games had a male protagonist for a chunk of it and I was enjoying it well enough (kind of an old game, at least a few years iirc fake family maybe?) and part way through, after a fair chunk of content it was a swap to chloe as the protagonist and I lost interest. Book of Lust does something similar in that you're switching protagonists throughout it.

I always find it offputting. I wish I didn't because it'd open more games for me to get into.

I agree with you. I avoid games with female protagonist, and multiple protagonist. I just want to play a game I can have some fun with. I like to play games with male protagonist, I prefer harem games, but do enjoy a good story. So games like The Fiery Scion, Cosy Cafe, Chasing Sunsets, and Bare Witness etc... are examples of games I enjoy...

I think the misalignment is what can make the game fun. Being able to play a version of your self you didn’t know or couldn’t be in real life.

I am almost NEVER bothered by MC's personality. The joy of playing another person that isn't me means I get to escape from reality.

if I'm enjoying the story and find myself easy to be placed in the MCs shoes, then turns of event that i have no choice over, whoch don't align with me, yes, i find it gets harder to connect to the MC, and if it the story starts going in a direction i wouldn't i stop playing as myself, create a new game, and go against everything i align with, just to see what content comes up next. who know what you might find and enjoy! so, i play both but i rather have the choice to be aligned with myself.

For me, it depends on how the character misaligns with me. In real life, I am kind of weak and don't think I would be a good fighter, although I have never had to actually be in a fight. But I actually enjoy playing a strong, self-confident character, if that character uses his strength to protect people or defend himself. However, if he uses it to force himself on other people, then that is a big turn-off. Basically, I don't mind a character being better than me (stronger, smarter, richer, more charismatic, etc.) but I want his personality to be fairly close to me (don't be a jerk except to an even bigger jerk, don't bully people, keep things consensual). I don't enjoy dark paths or domination. I want to step out a little bit, but not too far.

There are some things I dislike. It is hard for me to play a evil bastard. (Sometimes I do, but most of the times I´m a good guy)

Holy shit, did you just read my mind. Lol. I'm the same. Only difference is I still only watch lesbian porn. But everything else mostly mirrors my opinion and tastes. I never self insert so it's better to see a female MC hook up with other females
