The rules: every band must have 5 members chosen from any and all musicians across time and space. The band members must fill the following roles: Frontman/Vocalist; Guitarist; Bassist; Drummer; Unique Specialist. You cannot duplicate band members-you could have Geddy Lee as a Frontman or as a Bassist for instance, but not as both. No trying to cheat with musicians at different points in their life either. A Unique Specialist can be a keyboardist, pianist, a cellist, or anything else-ist musically, but only their Unique Specialty should be considered, even if they are talented enough for another role in the band.
Obviously this is just for fun and discussion, and I'm sure there are some predictable combinations, but I'm really excited to see some of the combinations and think about the sounds that a band composition I wouldn't think of would produce.
Here's my band:
Frontman: Freddie Mercury. The voice, the charisma, the energy.
Guitarist: Easily the hardest pick for me, but I'll take Prince. Prince is actually the reason that the "no duplicate musicians" rule is there, I think the objectively right answer to this little exercise is Prince five times.
Bassist: I think the answer here probably says the most about what kind of sound matters to you. I go Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. I think in terms of musical cohesion he fits better than some others with Freddie and Prince. And I love Iron Maiden.
Drummer: Neil Peart. There are no other contenders for me. Glad I got to see him live.
Unique Specialist: I feel basic with my choice here, but I want an instrument that can be used as a mainstay without being too gimmicky. So I take Ian Anderson and his flute.
