Hopefully the correct place to post this. Wondered if anyone knows if proper switch 2 modding is on the horizon (anywhere, not just here). I’ve seen a few games like breath of the wild/Totk and Pokémon get some attention but I haven’t seen any real discussion on the newest games since the change in hardware.

I think this channel is meant for requesting mods of the games available on the site. But I'll bite.

I tend to keep on top of this and to the best of my knowledge, there are no current or incoming Switch 2 mod or hacks. I expect that it will happen someday, but unlike the Switch 1, this thing is locked up tighter than a drum. If you are looking for more up-to-date info, I would join one of the Switch 2 modding or Switch 2 emulation subreddits.

Here’s hoping, I haven’t been on Reddit in a long time so I’ll check those out.

Never understood the need for Nintendo to completely wall out any customization or mods to their systems. To the point they ruin the lives of the people who develop modchips

You could still hack the original Switch and play pirated games on it, but as far as I know, Nintendo swapped out the Tegra chip so it’s no longer possible to enter RCM mode...

So, how is modding supposed to be possible on the Switch 2?

Do you have a hacked Switch running Atmosphere?

I certainly don't agree with their, let's call it, "enthusiasm" when it comes to going after those who find exploits for their systems, but I do understand their motives. With flashcarts, the Nintendo DS became one of the most pirated systems in history, right next to the 3DS. The Wii was cracked wide open to the point where you didn't even need a modchip within a few years. And the Tegra chip was so busted that even firmware updates couldn't shut down Switch piracy on pre-2018 systems.

After all that, their "lock-everything-down-and-go-after-anyone-who-tries-to-break-it-open" mentality makes sense, even for things like cosmetic mods. I certainly don't agree with it (as I had DS and 3DS flashcarts AND a fully modded Wii), but I get it.
