discussion Should games have music, yes or no?

Depends on the vibe of the game. Others have mentioned it before but music (or the absence of it can elevate the experience). Lack of music when exploring in DS and hearing the Firelink Shrine when you first discover a shortcut home makes me hard.

In nearly every single game, music enhances the experience. Maybe I'm a little biased as an audio engineer, but music can set moods, feelings, and shape entire experiences. Likewise, the lack of music can sometimes be a powerful thing. There are many games(porn and not) where tense moments have no music, and if the game otherwise has music, it can draw you in and make you focus far more.

Music helps alot as does ambient backround sounds (Bird's, Crickets, street noises ect.)
Lewd sounds is the defining thing for me. I have stated before on a different thread that great renders even with great animations and NO sound just doesnt work for me.
Example I use is Hottest girl 1st time together then she just lays there, doesnt move and doesnt make a sound. Might Nut once but im not into Necrophillia.

lol i don't think there is a single renpy or vn game in general i have played without muting the music, idk why they even add it. ambience aside its like listening to vintage porn or elevator music its so annoyingly distracting.

I think one of the most emblematic things about music in videogames is to have a same theme declined in several forms - Like you have one same theme for roaming in the world, a tense version adding (or removing) some parts, a combat version.. Just switching from a version to the other can be meaningful if the gameplay part, you do your thing and then music changes for apparently no reason===>"oh shit i've been spotted or what"

If executed well it adds so much to the immersion and identity of a title

Of course silence is important too because it emphasizes certain moments while the rest has background music

The first thing I usually do is bring the music to 1% in Renpy games and to 0 in RPG maker, however if it's done well like in Being a Dik then it's ok (that game has a great soundtrack)

games should have music, and the quality of the music should be a concern for any game dev.

AI generated music is actually not bad, too.

It doesn't need it. It's beneficial ofc if implemented well, but 9/10 times in eroge it's generic with bad volume mixing and actively makes the game worse.
I would say if you are going to make it yourself or pay someone for it sure, but otherwise chances are it's going to be bad.

I don’t have a problem with music and ambient sound as long as I can mute it. Because for me it only ruins the experience.

I prefer playing without music but with decent sounds overall, rather than a game where the music just pisses me off

Only if it doesnt get annoying imo, I usually turn it off and play something on Spotify if its the same darn track looping the entire game. When done well it can really enhance emotional moments tho

First thing I do in most games is turn the music down or mute it. I'm usually playing my own music or have a video running on the side because I've fried my attention span.

I believe it depends on the game and context. Personally, I believe sex scene music can be used well, but most of the time its to imply the mood of the scene, and in my opinion "simulation sounds" are generally better. They use the music to cover up the lack of background atmosphere. Understandably, since gathering all those sounds for each setting is time consuming and tiresome.
For fight scenes and non sexual scenes, go nuts, just don't blow my eardrums out.

Having original music is rare, but goes a long way towards making games memorable. The problem is, too many games use cheap licensed music, which is often not particularly appropriate to the setting or doesn't come together into a coherent soundtrack, or else go for the same royalty-free music and end up sounding all alike. I recognize that this is often a budget consideration, but there are also bigger projects which, in spite of it all, invest nothing into their game's music or sound effects.

to be honest i like having music, even if its just some chill background music. there has been times where i get really chilled out and just vibe to the beats in the background.

If the music properly matches the overall vibe the scene then yes. Otherwise it's muted on my end. I feel that music can certainly either help or hurt a game based on how it's presented as just that extra level of detail.

Having music for a game really adds to the experience. I think having music is a must if you want to make a good game, but make sure the music doesn't feel out of place.
