discussion difference between Renpy and VN

Can some one explain what is the difference between the 2 ?

Renpy is the game engine and programming language a modified version of Python.

VN is Visual Novel.

Renpy can have a sandbox element, does sandbox games in renpy count as VN also?

Renpy is a game engine like Unreal Engine, its beginner friendly, which is the reason most smaller devs rely on that to make their games
VN is just visual Novel, basically a book with images and sometimes Voice Acting
